Low Swirl Burner (LSB) is a very promising combustion organization technology to reduce NOx emissions. Typically the burner stabilizes the flame by swirling or backflow, but the backflow zone creates a risk of NOx increase and flashback. There are two main mechanisms for the technology to reduce NOx emissions, one is that the chemical residence time of the LSB flame is shorter, and the other is that the LSB operates at a lower equivalence ratio and the flame temperature is lower. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, Cheng et al.[1]The researchers conducted an experimental study of the LSB combustor. It can be seen from the figure that after premixing, due to the centrifugal effect of the outer low swirl, the central jet also diverges and decelerates outward, and finally the jet velocity is balanced with the flame propagation speed, and the flame is stable. In addition, the flame produced by the low-spin combustion technology is a raised flame, which can automatically adjust the position of the flame root when the flow of the combustion chamber fluctuates, widening the boundary of tempering and flameout.[2]. The backflow zone is eliminated, further reducing NOx emissions.
